This Saturday (August 11th) in Fort Greene Park (Myrtle Ave and N. Portland Ave), FOKUS will present it’s fifth annual celebration of art, music and life – The Stoop. The all-ages event seeks to bring artists and community members together to relax and participate in a cultural exhange that mimics the traditional New York hang-outs that are the steps leading up to buildings and homes across the city known to New Yorkers as “stoops” (apparently some people out-of-town aren’t familiar with the word). The Stoop is free and will feature live performances by Scienze and the Brooklyn Steppers Marching Band, in addition to DJs, games, interactive arts stations, live art and many prizes like a DJ101 class courtesy of Scratch DJ Academy. There’s a lot more going on at The Stoop that might appeal to Brooklynites and anybody else who can make it to the park between 2 and 7PM. For more motivation, we’ve posted a quality joint – Vaso de Leche – by the gifted, buzzing Brooklyn MC, Scienze and a video of DJ Polarity doing his thing spinning throwbacks at an in-store event back in 2010 (both below). Probably goes without saying that Polarity is one DJ you can look-out for at the Stoop.

For more information on all of the activities which include a black-book competition, hip-hop Jeapordy, Spades and Connect 4, check out what FOKUS’ site says about it.
