MCA Lives on in Music: The Roots and BK’s DJ Woof represent for lost Beastie Boy, Adam “MCA” Yauch

Sadly, in the three weeks since our last post – a feature on Cali beatmaker and fellow TPB fan, Nappy Chan – serveral music legends representing multiple genres and eras passed on. One of the first in our latest string of musicians lost, and arguably the most meaningful to the hip hop community and to New York, was founding member of the Beastie Boys, MCA (born Adam Yauch). Obviously, there are plenty of tributes circulating. We present two quality examples (below):

(1) The Roots’ MCA tribute* performed live at JazzReggae Fest. And…

(2) A set spun in memory of MCA by Brooklyn’s DJ Woof live in his crib (I don’t know if dude’s in a bedroom or walk-in closet, but there seems to be mad shit in there).

* It should be noted that The Roots performed a Go-Go rendition of Paul Revere in memeory of MCA AND Washington D.C. legend/Go-Go pioneer, Chuck Brown.

Readers, feel free to share links to your favorite MCA tributes (and/or tributes to Chuck Brown, Whitney Houston, Robin Gibb, and even Doc Watson [perhaps remix tributes]).

    • The mess shows that there’s real work being done in there. I’d like to do a post or series of posts on studios (DJs + producers). One of many items on a long list of potential post topics! Thanks for commenting… your video series is dope!
