This Kendrick Lamar video isn’t exactly new, but we haven’t posted it yet and feel very obligated to. Whenever I ask someone if they’re up on this dude and they say “no”, I get a little aggravated. Posting the video and audio for HiiiPoWeR is the first step in Surreal Soundscapes’ campaign to make sure Kendrick’s music get’s heard (not to mention his Top Dawg Entertainment collaborators’). Fredo Tovar and Scott Fleishman of APLUSFILMZ, shot the video, which definitely matches the mood of the music. The video is good, but for HiiiPoWeR, we’re more focused on the audio. J Cole produced the hell out of this track, and Kendrick Lamar’s lyrics and flow are impressive. I’ve come to expect nothing less from him and I’d be surprised if he put out anything truly disappointing. He’s a relatively fresh face, but I’m inclined to give him veteran credit early. Knowing the trajectory of the average rapper’s career, I’m probably making a mistake, but I’ve got a good feeling about Kendrick Lamar. As long as hip hop survives the the wrath of the wack rappers and the human race lives past 2012, he should be alright. Look out for Kendrick’s first major album release later this year, Section 80.
